Autism friendly films showing this week

Cinema-goers with autism will be able to enjoy special autism friendly screenings of a hit film this week.

Viewers will be able to watch comedy sequel Johnny English Reborn, starring Rowan Atkinson, at selected ODEON venues across the country. This is the latest in the Autism Friendly Films series, which is now being held monthly.

Autism Friendly Films is an initiative run by Dimensions, a support provider for people with autism and learning disabilities and cinema chain ODEON. For the pilot screening, which took place in 40 cinemas nationwide in August, more than 3,000 support workers, carers, people with learning disabilities and/or autism and their families came. An autism friendly screening differs to a standard screening in several ways:

  • The lights are on low
  • The volume is turned down
  • There are no trailers at the beginning of the film
  • Viewers are able to take their own food and drinks
  • Viewers are able to move around the cinema if they like.
